Excarpsus is a Spring/Summer 2023 collection for the Australian designer brand Olivia, specialising in ready-to-wear garments. Olivia focuses on creating elevated daywear with an extension into special occasion pieces.
For this project, we were tasked with designing a 24-piece collection, incorporating upcoming trends for Spring/Summer 2023. By analysing key trends—such as patterns, silhouettes, fabrics, and consumer profiles—I developed Excarpsus, a collection that embodies the brand’s signature essence: elegance, soulfulness, and passion. Designed for women aged 25 to 50, the garments seamlessly transition from everyday wear to special occasions, offering versatility with a refined touch.
For a university assignment, I was tasked with recreating a Tableau Vivant—a static scene inspired by a historical photograph, reimagined in a modern context. Our lecturer encouraged us to interpret the brief in our own way, allowing us to choose a topic of personal interest and recreate it through our chosen lens.
I chose to focus on fashion, specifically the iconic designs of Christian Dior. My project centered around the Junon dress from 1950, a piece that immediately captivated me with its shimmering petal-like skirt and exquisite craftsmanship. Dior’s original design was inspired by a tulip from the garden of his first home in Granville. Drawing from this idea, I reinterpreted the dress using a personal connection—taking inspiration from the white roses that grew in the garden of my childhood home, where I lived for 17 years. These roses hold deep sentimental value, evoking cherished memories and a sense of nostalgia.
